Day one at JavaOne, San Francisco

I'm in San Francisco this week, attending the JavaOne conference. I'd rather be across the street at Apple's WWDC, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Apparently I got here too early though and the hotel wouldn't allow me to check in for a few more hours. I ditched my bags and went in search of lunch.

Randomly walking around a city you aren't familiar with in search of food is usually unsuccessful, so after a couple blocks I decided to go the easy route and stop by the Sony Metreon. Yes, technically the Metreon is a mall, thus I went to a food court, but I had another reason for stopping there. Back when the facility was being designed, I was on the team Sony hired to design its' web precense. However, while I'm probably more familiar with the creative process behind the building's design then most shoppers, I'd only been there once before. Walking through the building brought back great memories of the creative team on that project.

I stopped at Longlife Noodle for a curry noodle dish. I've had worse, but this place won't be on my list to revist. After lunch, I spent a couple hours reading a new book in the park just outside. The weather was fantastic, and the park was litered with people sleeping and relaxing in the sun.

For dinner, I hit Sushi Groove with some friends. The sushi was pretty good and reasonably priced. The restaraunt was nessled in a residential area and had a coxy, local feel. Reservations were mandatory.
