Just wanted to share this find: After the 1.0 update of FireBug last month, the extension stopped working for me on Firefox 2.0.x on Ubuntu. Thanks to a quick Google search, I found that FireBug conflicts with ColorZilla. After disabling ColorZilla, FireBug now works again.

Update 2007-02-08: The author of ColorZilla contacted me, and while we still haven’t isolated the problem, we did find that my ColorZilla extension was at version 0.8.x, and wasn’t finding the 1.0 update. After un-installing and re-installing ColorZilla, it is now somewhat more compatible with FireBug. Both extensions load, and everything except the ColorZilla Eyedropper works.

Update: It’s broken again… And once again, disabling ColorZilla got my FireBug working again. I don’t know which extension is causing the problem, but there seems to be a conflict.

Erik, I’m the author of ColorZilla and wanted to try and reproduce the conflict you experienced. I’m using ColorZilla together with the latest Firebug on all my machines without any problems, and as far as I know so do thousands of other users… Can you please give some more details about the problem you saw?
Also, if you want, feel free to email me.

Hi Alex! Thanks for the post. I’ll send you an email tomorrow once I’m on the machine that was having a conflict.

Wow, I’ve been whacking my head against the monitor over this for several weeks now so thank you very much for posting this info. I’m running Edgy with the standard Fx install and Colorzilla 1.0 was definitely keeping Firebug locked out.

Hm, I’m having the same problem right now actually. Firebug suddenly stopped working (after an update I guess…because it worked before with both extensions enabled). With Colorzilla disabled, Firebug works perfectly. I’m using Colorzilla 1.0 and Firebug 1.05. Was any fix discovered or a reason found?

Hi Dylan. So far there’s still a conflict for me as well. Additionally, Colorzilla interferes with the del.icio.us plugin on some of my environments too :-( I exchanged a couple emails with Alex (see the first comment), but unfortunately he wasn’t seeing the same problem.
In the meantime, I’ve just been using system color-pickers or firebug (if the color is set via CSS.) On linux, I’ve been using an app called Gcolor2 which generally works well enough.

Ubuntu 7.10
Firefox 2.0.0.11
NoScript 1.2.6 <= stopped working
Firebug 1.05 <= stopped working
Colorzilla 1.0
When I disabled Colorzilla, NoScript and Firebut worked again.
The following addons were not affected by Colorzilla

I’m having the same issues as others are reporting… Edgy, FF 2.0.0.12, Firebug 1.05, ColorZilla 2 downloaded today.
I’m using a standard install of Firefox with Firebug, which worked fine, until I installed ColorZilla.
Removing or disabling ColorZilla allows firebug works again.
