Nokia E61

E61

Normally I'd say this isn't the device for me (I tend to go for the "fashion phones" more then the "business phones", and I'm still holding out for an N90) but I've been growing more and more interested in the Nokia E61 (pictured above.) The E61 is positioned as an email device; However, that's not really want interests me. What I want is the large screen and full keyboard to better interact with my content and the web.

I'm using Opera on my 7610 to get online, and it works pretty well; However, I always feel like I'm in browsing-only-mode when connecting from my phone rather then the online-participant-mode I'm in from a full workstation. And as much as I like my phone, I don't blog from it. I don't post to discussion boards or log into IRC. I don't take notes, I don't use the To Do list, and I don't really create any content other then pictures. (As a side note, my only real complaint about the E61 is the lack of a camera.) I'm pretty handy with predictive text for texting, but it's not enough for blogging from a small screen.

This limited interaction also hampers my online experience with content. For example, I can read feeds through mobile bloglines, but I can't really follow links or bookmark something in del.icio.us that I want to dive into. That means I need to be careful when browsing my feeds so that I don't lose a link to something I want to research further.

With a full keyboard and large screen the situation might be different. It's then actually feasible to post links, tags, and descriptions to del.icio.us. Furthermore, since the E61 can use wi-fi, and there's free wi-fi nearly everywhere in Austin, I could interact with content fast enough to get things done. The E61 is also pocketable, which makes it a little more practical for day-to-day use then the 770 (which is still on my must-have wishlist though for it's wicked hackability.)
